Maths - Today a more practical lesson about socks!! If your washing machine is anything like mine you will be confused about where pairs of socks seem to go inside the washing machine. There always seems to be mismatched socks instead of pairs! Your activity today is about finding different combinations of mis-matched socks. To start with you have 3 pairs of socks (red, yellow and green). If you muddle the pairs what combinations could you make? For example you could have red and green or red and yellow. Draw the different combinations that are possible using coloured pencils or pens, or by using the printable cut out socks below. Then increase the challenge by adding a different coloured pair of socks. Now you have 4 pairs (blue, red, yellow and green) so what combinations can you make now? You could even add another pair and have 5 pairs of socks to start with (orange, blue, red, yellow and green). Record your mis-matched pairs carefully making sure you do not have any repeating pairs.
Extra challenge - Investigate the number of mismatched pairs you are able to create - is there a relationship between the number of pairs you have to start with and the number of mis-matched pairs?
English- Listen to the story again and write down any words that excite you and make you want to continue reading. Today we would like you to think about how you can change words and phrases to make them more exciting. Using the sheet below and an online thesaurus or search engine try to find synonyms for the words on the sheet. Try to find exciting words that you could use in your own writing. Once you have completed the synonym sheet, have a go at making some simple sentences more exciting using more complex vocabulary as well as adjectives,adverbs and similes.
