English: Adverbs are words that we use to describe a doing word (these are known as verbs). For example, he ate his breakfast quickly. The word ‘quickly’ is the adverb as it tells us how he has eaten the breakfast. Adverbs can come before or after the verb (action/doing word):
Check out the video here to help explain adverbs. https://www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/topics/zwwp8mn/articles/zgsgxfr
Most adverbs end in –ly. This is a useful think to know and help you identify them more easily.
Once completed, log onto Purplemash and complete the quiz of choosing the correct adverb for the sentence given.
Maths: Today we are looking at missing number subtraction sentences. If I want to find out what the missing number is in; 7 - __ = 5, I will find 7 and 5 on my number line and count the difference. Can you work it out? If I started with 7 sweets, gave some to a friend and had 5 left, how many did I give to me friend? When the first number is missing in a subtraction sentence we have to use a different method. If my missing number sentence was __ - 5 = 4, I need to find out how many cakes I had if when I took 5 away, I was left with 4 cakes. First, we find 5 on our number line. Then, we add 4 by jumping forward 4 places.
Watch the video from 6:50 minutes and see if you can solve the missing number sentences in your exercise books. Use your number lines or the 100-square you were given in your home learning pack. An activity is on Purplemash for you to complete, called 'Missing Number Subtraction Sentences'.
