Monday: 

Read the chapter Loose Lips Sink Ships, look for the following words in context (that means in the sentences)

Luftwaffe, formation, askew, savage, babbling, mentioned

Do you understand all the words listed above? If you are not sure of any, look them up, use the clues in the sentences in the book to help you. Try writing your own sentences using these words, can you use the in conversation with the adults you live with, see if you can explain to them what they mean, or ask them if they can help you to understand their meaning.

 

Tuesday: 

What do you know about spies? Think about any books you have read in which there is a spy, what about any movies you have watched? What are the characteristics of a spy? What s important and different about what they do compared to the actions of any other characters in the story or film? Which is your favourite spy character, explain why you have chosen this one.

Use lemon juice to write a spy message. Remember that the letters will disappear as soon as the lemon juice has dried.

What sort of a spy would you like to be? Thinking about James Bond, can you design a gadget (obviously not too gruesome!) that would help you and not be very noticeable to ‘ordinary’ people.

 

Wednesday:

Look closely at Olive and Esther's relationship. Is it positive or negative? Why do you think this is? Predict how you feel that their relationship will progress in the story and make sure that you give clear reasoning behind this either from the text, personal experience or similarities between other texts.

 

Thursday:

Re-read the chapter and answer the Guided Reading Questions below.

 

Friday:

Extended writing task. Choose from one of these option.

  1. Write the first half of the chapter again, but from the view point of one of the Luftwaffe pilots.
  2. Write an apology note from Ephraim, sensitively explaining why you cannot care for Esther Jenkins.

Maths

You have two options for your Maths learning both are areas that you have already covered within Year 6 but it is your choice where you would like to focus your learning. The Year 6 work should be at a suitable level however if you are struggling or need a bit of a challenge then try a different year group. Please remember that we expect you to be doing Maths daily.

Science

This Half Term we will be looking at light. We will be starting with some Oak Academy lessons and will then link this knowledge to our History topic of World War 2.

This week we are learning why Buddhists meditate.   Like last week, the lesson can be found on the Oak Academy website:  https://classroom.thenational.academy/lessons/why-do-buddhists-meditate/ As with previous weeks, you will need your home learning book (or paper) and something to write with. 

 

Art

We are continuing our WW2 theme with art this week.  Look at the attached pdf.  This week, you are going to create some WW2 silhouette art.  You can use felt tips, or paints if you have them. Look carefully at how to mix your colours; you will be applying some of the skills you learnt with colour mixing earlier in the year.

 

PSHCE

Please see the attached booklet to do some transition sessions for moving up to Secondary School at your own pace. This booklet is designed to be done a page each week so should last you for the whole of this half term.

 

P.E

The Association For Physical Education, are uploading 2 videos a week to their website and youtube channel. It would be really wonderful, if you could take part in some activities at home!
