Creative Curriculum – This term our topic is Where in the World? We will have the opportunity to look at trade and how it influences the geography of the modern world (offering opportunities for comparison with trade during Roman times). As an extension of this, we will be embarking upon our own enterprise project, allowing the pupils to design, produce and sell their own product. We will be studying hard and flexible materials in DT, investigating which properties make bridges strong and stable. In MFL, we will be learning about Christmas and Epiphany in France and we will also have the opportunity to share our experiences of the festive season with children in Japan.
ENGLISH - In English we will be studying nonsense poetry, including limericks. We will also be honing our journalistic skills through writing and reading newspaper and magazine articles which will be linked to our topic work. We will be improving our inference skills through reading the book Leon and the Place Between in addition to the newspaper information texts.
MATHS - During Maths the children will be following the Mathematical Framework which will cover using all four operations, as well as Number, Place and Value, Addition and Subtraction. Keep practising those multiplication tables too! We start the term with a focus on fractions and decimals and progress to measure (looking specifically at perimeter and area) and then geometry.
R.E - During these sessions children will be exploring Christianity by looking at and studying texts from the bible. Through creative activities the children will discover how these texts can help us understand Christianity today. This half term's focus will be on the Incarnation.
P.E – children should not be wearing any jewellery to school other than a watch and/ or stud earrings, both of which will need to be removed for P.E. lessons by your child. If children are unable to remove their earrings please can they remove them at home on P.E days. We are not permitted to remove a child’s earrings or apply the tape; the children need to be able to do this independently. Long hair must be tied back.
PE kits need to be in on Tuesdays and Thursdays please. As we are outside as much as possible they will need to bring appropriate clothing and a change of footwear.
SCIENCE - In Science the children will be exploring Living Things and Habitats. We will be investigating habitats both locally and around the world, food chains and how small changes can affect these ecosystems.
