Expect the Best

Welcome

Home Learning Pack

Due to Government decision to close schools until further notice, as a year 2 team we have prepared a home learning pack for each child.

We appreciate that childcare at this time may be difficult, so we are asking kindly that you work through the home learning pack the best you can, and at your own pace as well as completing daily activities which will be put on the schools website.

Each pack includes:

  • A KS1 Arithmatic and reasoning quiz
  • A number square to help to support your child's maths
  • A science quiz based on out current topic plants
  • A few comprehension exercises
  • A reading record sheet for you to document books you read together at home. Please continue to read with your child daily, encourage them to talk about they like about the book, retell the story, predict what might happen next and make links between stories.
  • A book review template for your child to complete once a book has been read.

Please remember to look at the ‘phonics and reading’ section under ‘curriculum’ on our school website for some fun and interactive links for learning:

https://www.stjohnsps.co.uk/curriculum/

We also kindly ask that you regularly visit https://www.purplemash.com/sch/stjohns-PE29 to access online learning, and some fun age appropriate games too! Myself and Mrs Morrish will be setting weekly activities for the children to complete, which they can see remotely once completed and saved.

All you need to do is enter your child’s username and password code, which can be found on the card attached to this letter.

To keep your child active while inside why not try these websites:

  • BBC Supermovers
  • Youtube - just dance
  • cosmickids.com
  • gonoddle.com

You may also have seen that Joe Wicks is sharing a daily PE lesson called 'PE with Joe' on his youtube channel. Take a look and maybe even join in too!

For Design and Technology ideas please take a look at the document below for fun ideas to enjoy together. Take photos and put them in your scrapbooks so I can see what you have made.

BBC Bitesize is a great website and covers many different curriculum areas (including maths, english, geography, history and science) for you and your child to investigate. It contains interactive games, videos and links which should prove useful over the coming days.

For information about keeping your children safe online, taker a look at https://www.thinkuknow.co.uk/parents/jessie-and-friends/ which are short videos with the key messages shared in an age appropriate manner. Please watch them first to make sure you are happy with the content and be around to answer any questions your child may have after watching them. Maybe you could then make your own video together presenting the key messages in your own way. You could also create a poster, write a poem, write a story or play and share those in your English book (sent home) or in your scrapbook.

Any whole school updates will be posted on our school website, and our twitter page.

Thank you for all your continued support at this time, and for baring with us while we get things running as smoothly as possible.

Mrs Hardy
