Good Morning. I hope you have all had a good weekend.
Maths - This week we will work on the operations of multiplication and division. It is important that we use the correct method to solve these types of equations.
To multiply we can use arrays . . . . . This array shows us 2 x 5 or 5 x 2 and the answer is 10.
. . . . .
Instead of saying 'multiplied by' we can say 'groups of' to help us.
This interactive game lets you see different arrays and the relationship between multiplication and division. https://www.ictgames.com/mobilePage/arrayDisplay/index.html Just enter a multiplication equation and see the array and then press the division button to see the array change into equal groups.
We can also use repeated addition e.g. 2x5 = 5 + 5 = 10 or 3 x 4 = 4 + 4 + 4 = 12
We can also use our knowledge of counting patterns e.g. 2 x 5 = count in 5's two times '5, 10'
Today, try and solve the multiplication equations using one of the methods shown above. The sheets with your questions on are attached below. As an extra challenge convert the completed multiplication equation into a division equation. e.g. 5 x 2 = 10 converts to 10÷2 = 5 and/or 10÷5 = 2
Guided Reading - from Oxford Owl website
This week we would like you to choose your own book to read from oxford owl The oxford owl books are colour coded so choose a book from the following colours.
Kingfisher Exclamation marks and Woodpecker Speech marks - White
Kingfisher Speech marks and Woodpecker Exclamation marks - Lime
Kingfisher Full stops and Woodpecker Capital letters - Red or Yellow
Kingfisher Commas and Woodpecker Full stops - Orange
Kingfisher Question marks and Woodpecker Commas - purple
Then we would like you to write a review of the book you have chosen either using the sheet attached or a sheet that was provided in your home learning pack.
There are also some more activities focusing on the different 'shun' spellings.
The story on purple mash this week is all about Anna and Sports Day and there are the usual quizzes set for you to complete. I have added a PDF below which supports the text and gives some comprehension questions and some work on using the present tense.
The games to try this week ask you to look at repeated addition as multiplication and also to practice your doubling skills. It requires flash so you may need to give permission for this to run first before the game appears on screen. http://www.snappymaths.com/multiplication/earlymult/interactive/repadd/repaddframe.htm
