Summer term 2019
We hope you have all had a wonderful Easter break and are fully refreshed for the new term. We are looking forward to seeing a continuation of good learning behaviour and a kind and caring attitude towards each other.
We have lots of exciting learning to look forward to! We will kick off this term with ‘Superheroes’. This topic will seep into many aspects of the children's learning and hopefully again inspire their creativity. As always, the topic will start off with a bit of excitement and drama, finishing off on the final day with a Wow day!
The term starts with another important visit to statistics. Next we will continue to build on our knowledge of place value and algebra.and volume. We will also be visiting addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Maths as always will creep into other curriculum subjects, especially science and computing. It is extremely important you help to support your children’s learning through regular times table practice as these number facts are so useful in many different areas of maths learning. The Ravens will have a weekly session on a Wednesday where they will be tested on their focus times table as well as have opportunities to sharpen up their skills.
Our big focus in English this half term is graphic novels and a film comparison. There will be a strong link to our topic ‘Superheroes’ with both. The year group will be preparing graphic novels, which we can hopefully share with you at home, based on their own superhero.
The children are expected to read at home on a daily basis using books that they have chosen to read for enjoyment. Please support your child by sharing their chosen book with them every night and encourage them to change their books in the school library. Our biggest push this term is our handwriting. We are looking to improve overall standards of presentation, concentrating on letter shapes and joins in particular. The children will hopefully be practising handwriting every day in class.
Science - We will be looking inside our bodies to look specifically at our bones and muscles, as well as how what we eat keeps us healthy.
Art - This term we will be creating a collage of our own superhero badges.
DT - Linking to our science and topic, we will be trying new fruits to turn into fruit kebabs. Yum!
RE – In RE we will be exploring Judaism.
P.E – We will be joined by HSSP, to help us develop our sports skills.
Please note Ravens PE lessons will be on Tuesday and a Thursday
For all P.E activities children should remove watches and/ or stud earrings for P.E. lessons. Studded earrings should be removed on PE days unless children are able to remove them themselves. If removing earrings at school, please provide them with a suitable container to store them in. Long hair must be tied back.
Maths homework will be given out on a Friday and needs to be returned on Thursdays.
Spelling homework will be given out on a Friday and needs to be returned on the following Thursday. The children will be tested on their spellings on Friday.
Please see the homework page for weekly homework tasks.
