Welcome Year 4s

to Nightingale's Class
Summer 2019

Creative Curriculum – The children will be looking into the history of entertainment. To begin we focus on William Shakespeare and the influence he has on entertainment. We then move on to looking at ways in which children entertained themselves through different toys, as well as having a go at making our own zoetrope!  We think they will have a great time!

ENGLISH - In English the children will be focusing upon stories with dilemmas and stories from other cultures.  So they will have the chance to explore authors who write in these styles as well as having a go themselves.  We will continue to have spelling sessions regularly which will be followed up through homework.  The children are expected to read on a daily basis using books that they have chosen to read for enjoyment, please support your child by sharing their chosen book with them every night and encourage them to change their books and bring their reading records in to be checked by us.

MATHS - During Maths the children will be following the Mathematical Framework which will cover using all four operations, as well as geometry, data handling, fractions and measuring. Keep practising those multiplication tables too!

R.E - During these sessions children will be exploring Christianity by looking at and studying texts from the bible.  Through creative activities the children will discover how these texts can help us understand Christianity today.

P.E – children should not be wearing any jewellery to school other than a watch and/ or stud earrings, both of which will need to be removed for P.E. lessons by your child. If children are unable to remove their earrings please can they remove them at home on P.E days. We are not permitted to remove a child’s earrings or apply the tape; the children need to be able to do this independently. Long hair must be tied back.

PE kits need to be in on Wednesdays and Fridays please.  As we are outside as much as possible they will need to bring appropriate clothing and a change of footwear.

SCIENCE - In Science the children will be exploring animals and their habitats. They will explore animals from across the world, how they have adapted to their environment, animal foods chains and how animals grow and develop.

HOMEWORK - The children will continue to use the Homework Book for;

  • Writing out of sentences using their spelling words. (Spellings will be given out on a Friday and the children will be tested each Thursday).
  • There will be an English homework and a Maths homework as well as times table practice each week (times tables will be tested fortnightly).
  • The homework books are to be returned on a Wednesday morning.

  • We are looking forward to a term of positive learning!
