Welcome Year 4s to Nightingale's Class Spring 2018

Creative Curriculum – The children will have fun finding out about earthquakes this term.  They will be finding out about Pangea and how the Earth has changed over time as well as the immediate effects an earthquake has on people and the planet.  They will be learning how to sew by creating a layers of the earth sampler and will also be creating a testing an earthquake proof model.   We think they will have a great time!

ENGLISH - In English the children are focussing upon limericks and news paper report writing.  So they will have the chance to explore authors who write in these styles as well as having a go themselves.  We will continue to have spelling sessions regularly which will be followed up through homework.  The children are expected to read on a daily basis using books that they have chosen to read for enjoyment, please support your child by sharing their chosen book with them every night and encourage them to change their books and bring their reading records in to be checked by us.

MATHS - During Maths the children will be following the new Mathematical Framework which will cover using all four operations, as well as geometry, data handling, fractions and measuring. Keep practising those multiplication tables too!

R.E - During these sessions children will be exploring the kind of world Jesus wanted for us.

P.E – children should not be wearing any jewellery to school other than a watch and/ or stud earrings, both of which will need to be removed for P.E. lessons by your child. If children are unable to remove their earrings please can they remove them at home on P.E days. We are not permitted to remove a child’s earrings or apply the tape; the children need to be able to do this independently. Long hair must be tied back.

PE kits need to be in on Wednesdays and Fridays please.  As we are outside as much as possible they will need to bring appropriate clothing and a change of footwear.

SCIENCE - In Science The children will be exploring sound. They have the chance to explore sounds and will have a go at soundproofing a box. The children are welcome to bring in resources and books relating to this.

HOMEWORK - The children will continue to use the Homework Book for;

  • Writing out of sentences using their spelling words. (Spellings will be given out on a Thursday and the children will be tested each Wednesday).
  • There will be an English homework and a Maths homework as well as times table practice each week (times tables will be tested fortnightly).
